Canon Powershot SX220is: Lens and Shutter

More cameras have come my way recently, now I have the Canon Powershot SX220is.

A wonderful little 14x optical zoom unit with many, many features. For this one I am just going to skip straight to the Images as "right out of the camera" (as always) the NEW HS system (High Sensitivity) does wonderful things! (specs are here)

Both these are a sample of the 14x optical zoom, one shot at the cameras widest point and the other to the max in optical!!! The little white box suggests how much the zoom factor is...

I played a little with the white balance option. So many times the auto white balance doesn't get it right due to mixed lighting. One powerful tool in most of these little cameras is the ability for you, the photographer, to actually set your white balance for each situation. Here on our grocery shopping day I played a little. With the custom white balance mode it wants you to measure a light source that is as close to white as you can find! Ultimately carrying a piece of white card or other white balance tool would be best but that fairly inconvenient!!! So I used the white price labels on the displays in Save-On as my reference point for the measurement! As you can see in the above pics there is a difference between the AWB and the Custom version.... Good.. that means I did it right!!!!

Here is just an assortment of images, pretty much I was using Auto or Program mode.... with both modes I had Auto ISO set so really there was very little fiddling by me.
Once again many other cool filter effects available in this model. My new "funest" is the Miniaturization mode, which is actually harder to do correctly that one would think. It is best with this mode to get above your subject and be looking down at them, looking off a cliff, the top of a building, parking lot etc.. that will help the effect dramatically.
I have some others I have been working on with the Canon Powershot S95 which I also will be posting soon.

All in all another great model, There is also a GPS model Canon Powershot SX230is ( from what I understand much the same as this model but with GPS added)
